WELCOME TO ISSUE #2, SMALL RHINO GAZETTE!

So, spring is technically already half over, but the weather is only just starting to catch up. There’s no doubt now that the season of fun is on the way and there are plenty of things to look forward to; the scent of flowers & food, the sounds of good times in the air, afternoon bevvies that somehow slip into the night, encounters with long lost friends and perhaps a bbq or a picnic or two.
In tune with this, we also have lots to get excited about at the boutique. We have a crisp new look store (see sneak-preview below), some great new labels, fun new collections from existing labels, more new washes in Cheap Monday Denim, sunglasses, new accessories by us (woohoo, in-house designers) caps by Schwipe, plenty of shirts and lots of frocks for all those ‘occasions’ coming up!
Pour yourself a drink with bubbles (ie: beer, champagne or just a lemonade) and keep reading for the low-down on some of our fave new things and maybe make some time to come in and see for yourself.

Cheers, Friedel & Charlie

With popping prints, neon colours and shiny shiny metallics all de rigueur, you had better take care when that sun finally does shine, or you could loose an eye!
To avoid any mishaps, we recommend you get serious about the very cool new shades from AM eyewear.

Established in 2003 by Sydney based designer Simon Ponnusamy, these unisex shades have have acquired international cult status, with the likes of Sienna Miller, The Klaxons & The Strokes all being avid fans.

The distinctive elements of AM Eyewear include French spring-loaded hinges, a malleable, sturdy, hand-moulded acetate frame, as well as highly scratch resistant, French APX nylon lenses, developed specifically for military helmets and fighter-jet shields.
These and more styles in store now.

SOMETHING FOR THE LADIES …

This summer, let us introduce you to something totally different, Something and Something Else the fashion labels.

Sydney based designer Natalie Wood is the Creator and Head Designer (previously known for designing for cult labels Insight, Beauty of Nature and Sample), has brought all of her years experience in fashion together to create these two exciting, similar-yet-different sister labels.

Both labels are influenced by Natalie’s love of animals, art, music, pop culture and nature which translates into her clean, sharp yet somehow whimsical and beautiful style. Each season she collaborates with different local and international artist to create prints and yardage to use for the collection to make each one truly memorable.

Something, (which is like the little sister label of Something Else) started off as merely a conversation of "not being able to find a t-shirt that fits well without breaking the budget" and now exists as a label that is heading into it's ninth season and attracting more attention from media and retailers across the globe. The designs promote a real sense of individualism, are graphic and print based, fun, and affordable all at once.

Autumn/Winter 2006 saw the introduction of Something Else, the higher end, slightly more mature big sister label of Something, where all the concepts and boundaries of Something are pushed even further with directional style experimentation. Something Else offers up a broad array of beautiful and clever graphics and prints, fused with clashes of colour and intricate textile placement on a variety of fabrics from cotton poplin and jersey through to delicate silk and lace all of which manifests itself as a fusion of tough street chic balanced with a delicate, feminine innocence.
Hem & Haw
For those sophisticated chaps, the Rhino welcomes back Hem & Haw for another season. With Swedish roots, ex Mjolk designer Fredrik Jonsson met with Thom Grogan from Nudie Denim to create a classically inspired label at a very accessible price point. Inspired by fine tailoring, H&H focuses heavily on slim, dapper yet wearable silhouettes. Even though the label explores the flaneur, the dandy and the refined, Hem & Haw can also easily be styled with denim to take it to a swanky street level. They also do a bit of too sweet to resist dresses etc for femmes. hemandhaw.com.au
